EG-type approval of vehicle lifts

Requirements for EG type approval in connection with CE marking apply when the manufacturer of a vehicle lift, as defined in Annex IV of the Machinery Directive, has chosen not to fully comply with the harmonized standard. SMP is accredited to perform EG type approvals in this area.

Purpose

SMP is accredited by SWEDAC and has been acting as a notified body for EG type approvals in the field of vehicle lifts for 25 years. We actively participate at the EU level in interpreting and revising harmonized standards for vehicle lifts, giving us extensive expertise in this area.

EG type approval requirements apply to machines where the manufacturer has chosen technical and safety solutions different from those specified in the harmonized standard, which is essentially advisory, or when a harmonized standard is lacking. Interpreting the requirements of the standard and determining compliance can be challenging. With us as your advisor, you minimize the risk of encountering issues related to CE marking of your products in Sweden or other parts of Europe.

Method

During an EG type approval, we assess whether the machine and its accompanying documentation comply with the requirements for CE marking. The conditions for EG type approval are regulated under Article 2, paragraphs 3 and 4, of the Machinery Directive. We visit your chosen location and conduct an inspection of the machine to identify any deficiencies. Subsequently, we prepare a type approval report that outlines any shortcomings found in the machine and its documentation.

Deliveries

Once all the identified deficiencies have been addressed, we provide you with a final report and a certificate of EG type approval, confirming that the machine has been approved. With this documentation, you can proceed to affix the CE mark and issue an EG declaration of conformity, indicating the machine's compliance.
