EC type approval of waste management vehicles

Requirements for EC type approval in connection with CE marking apply if the manufacturer of a manually loaded waste collection vehicle body with a compression mechanism, as defined in Annex 4 of the Machinery Directive, has chosen not to fully comply with harmonized standards. SMP is accredited to perform EC type approvals in this area.

Purpose

SMP is accredited by SWEDAC and has been performing EC type approvals in this field for 25 years as a notified body. We participate at the EU level in the interpretation and revision of the harmonized standard for rear-loaded waste management vehicles, which gives us extensive expertise in the field.

As Nordic manufacturers are at the forefront of ergonomics and new technical solutions, it is often challenging to fully comply with the harmonized technical standard at the EU level. In such cases, the assistance of a notified body is generally required. By choosing us as a notified body, you minimize the risk of encountering issues related to the CE marking of your products, both in Sweden and other parts of Europe. The Machinery Directive regulates the conditions for EC type approval under Article 2, points 3 and 4.

Method

During an EC type approval, we assess whether the machine and the documentation describing the machine meet the requirements for CE marking. We visit your chosen location and conduct an inspection of the machine.

Deliveries

Once the inspection of the machine and documentation is completed, we prepare a type approval report where we indicate any deficiencies we have found. When all the deficiencies have been addressed, you will receive a final report and a certificate of EC type approval, stating that the machine has been approved. You can then proceed with CE marking and issue a Declaration of Conformity for the machine.
