EC type approval of presses
When a manufacturer is CE marking a press for cold working of metals, as defined in Annex 4 of the Machinery Directive, and does not follow the harmonized standard, or does so without applying full quality assurance, the requirement for EC type approval applies.
SMP is accredited by SWEDAC and, as a notified body, has performed EC type approvals in this area for 25 years. We participate at the EU level in efforts to interpret and revise harmonized standards for presses used in the cold working of metals, and therefore have extensive expertise in this field.
It can be challenging to determine whether the standard's requirements have been met. With us as a sounding board, you minimize the risk of encountering problems related to the CE marking of your products, whether in Sweden or the rest of Europe. The requirement for EC type approval applies to presses where the manufacturer has chosen alternative technical and safety solutions than those outlined in the harmonized standard, which is fundamentally advisory, or when no harmonized standard exists. The Machinery Directive regulates the conditions for EC type approval under Article 2, points 3 and 4.
Deliveries
During an EC type approval, we assess whether the press and the documentation describing the press meet the requirements for CE marking. We visit you at a location of your choice and conduct an inspection of the press.
After the inspection, we prepare a type approval report, detailing any deficiencies found in the press and the documentation. Once all deficiencies have been addressed, you will receive an EC type approval certificate, indicating that the press has been type approved. You can then CE mark the press and issue an EC declaration of conformity.
